Winterfest Boat Parade 2026: The Best Ways to See Fort Lauderdale’s Holiday Boat Parade
The 2026 Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade is on Saturday, December 12, 2026, with a preshow at 5:30 p.m. and the parade and fireworks at 6 p.m., running 12 miles from downtown Fort Lauderdale’s New River up the Intracoastal Waterway to Lake Santa Barbara in Pompano Beach. This guide covers the best ways to watch it, from the official ticketed viewing area and the black-tie ball to your own boat or a parade entry, plus the bridge times, water closures and weather rules you need to plan the night, as of October 31, 2026.
Dates, times and prices come from Winterfest’s own website and other sources listed below when we checked them, and can change. Winterfest says parade dates “may change without notice,” so confirm on the official site before you book.

What the Winterfest Boat Parade Is
The parade is run by Winterfest, Inc., which says the event began in 1971 and calls the 2026 edition “The 55th Annual Holiday Parade.” Winterfest, Inc. is a nonprofit registered as a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization, according to its IRS filings on ProPublica’s Nonprofit Explorer, so it is not a charity in the tax-deductible sense. Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is the title sponsor.
The 2026 theme is “Party in the U.S.A.”, and Winterfest has asked boaters to decorate with national symbols. Winterfest’s May 15, 2026 announcement says the parade will be the grand finale of the City of Fort Lauderdale‘s America 250 celebration. The Grand Marshal is the country duo LOCASH, named on Winterfest’s website and reported by WSVN on October 28, 2026.
How big is it? Winterfest’s homepage cites “over a million viewers” along the route, and its 2026 press releases bill it as “The World’s Most Watched Boat Parade.” Those are the organizer’s own figures; we found no independent count.
The Route and the Timing
Boats line up along the New River docks from west of the Historic Stranahan House to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The parade starts in front of Stranahan House, heads east along the New River to the Intracoastal Waterway, then turns north to Lake Santa Barbara in Pompano Beach, a 12-mile route. Winterfest says it takes about two and a half hours for the whole parade to pass any one spot, and start times run later the farther north you are. The parade reaches the official viewing area at Las Olas Boulevard and the Intracoastal at about 6:30 p.m.
Winterfest also lists future dates: December 11, 2027; December 9, 2028; December 15, 2029; and December 14, 2030.
Five Ways to See It
1. The official Parade Viewing Area (ticketed)
Winterfest’s ticketed Parade Viewing Area, presented by Nicklaus Children’s Health System, is at Las Olas Intracoastal Promenade Park, 80 Las Olas Circle, at the corner of Las Olas Boulevard and the Intracoastal. Gates open at 4 p.m. Winterfest lists tickets at $40 for adults and $30 for children 12 and under (children 3 and under free). At checkout on Winterfest’s ticketing page on October 31, 2026, adult tickets were $43.80 with fees, child tickets (ages 4 to 12) $33.18, and a Preferred Viewing Area section with first-come seating was $65.04.
Every guest gets a folding chair. Winterfest says the ticket includes stage entertainment, games, photos with Santa and radio commentary; food is sold in a Culinary Courtyard, and Winterfest suggests downloading its app for updates and to vote for your favorite boat. Bottles, coolers, outside chairs and pets are not allowed. If you are crossing the Las Olas bridge, Winterfest says to be on the east side by 6 p.m., because the bridge is locked open for the parade. Parking at the Las Olas Parking Garage, 200 Las Olas Circle, is “very limited,” and Winterfest encourages rideshare.
2. Free, from the shore
Watching from the shore is free: Winterfest calls the parade a “free public event.” Visit Lauderdale’s 2025 spectator guide said that without tickets “you can always gather along the Intracoastal with your lawn chair”. We could not find an official list of free public parks along the route, so arrive early and check local rules wherever you set up.
3. From a waterfront hotel or restaurant
The Riverside Hotel on Las Olas Boulevard sits on the New River section of the route, is a Winterfest sponsor, and is named on Winterfest’s website as a place to watch. Its website advertises a Winterfest Boat Parade party with waterfront views and open bars; the listing we saw gave no year or price, so check 2026 details with the hotel directly.
In its 2025 guide, Visit Lauderdale, Greater Fort Lauderdale’s tourism bureau, pointed to the Pier Top at Pier Sixty-Six, 17 floors up, for its 360-degree views. That was for the 2025 parade; we found no 2026 viewing package. Winterfest’s own list of hotels for parade weekend also includes the beachfront W Fort Lauderdale, which is on the ocean rather than the parade waterway, so plan to travel to the route. A spot on a hotel’s list is not the same as a view of the parade: ask the hotel whether your room or the event space actually overlooks the route.
4. From your own boat
This is where most people get it wrong. Under federal rule 33 CFR 100.702, the Coast Guard sets up a moving regulated area for the Winterfest parade, running from Cooley’s Landing Marina to Lake Santa Barbara, with a 50-yard buffer ahead, behind and to each side of the parade. Only boats designated by Winterfest and official patrol vessels may enter. Spectator boats must ask permission from the Coast Guard’s Captain of the Port Miami or a designated representative to enter, pass through or anchor in the area, and must follow their directions. The rule covers roughly 1:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on the parade day; in past years the Coast Guard has published the exact enforcement times in the Federal Register and announced them in the Local Notice to Mariners and marine radio broadcasts; we had not found the 2026 notice as of October 31, 2026.
Winterfest’s 2026 closure times (approximate):
- 2:30 p.m.: the New River closes to non-parade boats.
- 4:50 p.m.: the Intracoastal closes from Port Everglades north to the Oakland Park Boulevard bridge.
- 5:50 p.m.: the Intracoastal closes from north of the Oakland Park bridge to Lake Santa Barbara.
Plan your anchorage or dock well before these times, keep a VHF radio on, and expect to stay put until the parade has passed.
5. In the parade
You can enter your own boat. According to Winterfest’s 2026 boater pages, a private boat entry is $35. Boats with commercial signage pay $250 to $1,000 and charter boats $500 to $1,500, depending on length, and a “Showboat” sponsor entry with guaranteed TV coverage is $8,000. Boats must be at least 20 feet long (smaller boats can join the preshow). Each entry must upload Coast Guard certification and proof of liability insurance, and must have someone monitoring the VHF radio at all times. Each fee includes an 8×10 photo and two tickets to the Captain’s Cup Awards Dinner. Boats stage on the New River from 4:30 p.m., and Winterfest asks captains who don’t know the route to run the New River within 30 days before the parade. We could not find a published 2026 entry deadline.
No boat of your own? Winterfest says its office can arrange a turnkey decorated vessel for the parade. Its published prices date from 2020, so ask for current pricing.
The Black-Tie Ball and Other Winterfest Events
- Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Black Tie Ball: Saturday, December 5, 2026, 6 p.m. to midnight, at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, with a 16-piece orchestra and silent and live auctions. Tickets and tables in Winterfest’s online store ranged from $400 to $6,000 as of October 31, 2026.
- Family Fun Day: Sunday, November 22, 2026, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Esplanade Park, 400 SW 2nd Street. It is free and includes boat rides from Water Taxi Fort Lauderdale, a Winterfest sponsor, plus photos with Santa.
- Grand Marshal Reception (December 11) and VIP Viewing Party (December 12): both are listed by Winterfest as by invitation only, for sponsors.
Bridges, Roads and Getting There
Downtown bridges go up for the parade and stay up for a while. Winterfest’s 2026 bridge schedule (times approximate):
| Bridge | Closed to cars | Reopens |
|---|---|---|
| FEC railroad bridge | 5:30 p.m. | 7:20 p.m.* |
| Andrews Avenue | 5:30 p.m. | 8:00 p.m. |
| Third Avenue | 5:30 p.m. | 8:00 p.m. |
| Las Olas Boulevard | 6:30 p.m. | 8:30 p.m. |
| Sunrise Boulevard | 7:00 p.m. | 9:00 p.m. |
| Oakland Park Boulevard | 7:30 p.m. | 9:30 p.m. |
| Commercial Boulevard | 8:00 p.m. | 11:00 p.m. |
*Winterfest notes the railroad bridge’s Coast Guard permit lists 6:30 p.m. for opening to parade traffic; all times can change. The 7th Avenue bridge opens on demand. For the 2025 parade, the City of Fort Lauderdale closed the walkway in front of Stranahan House and Laura Ward Park from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and detoured downtown traffic; we had not found the 2026 road plan as of October 31, 2026. Water Taxi Fort Lauderdale did not list any parade-night service as of October 31, 2026, and the waterway is closed to other boats during the parade, so plan to arrive by car, rideshare or on foot.
What If It Rains?
Winterfest’s viewing-area page says “The Parade goes on Rain or Shine.” Wind is another matter: in 2023 Winterfest cancelled the parade the day before because of strong winds and rough water, on the advice of the U.S. Coast Guard, Local10 reported. Check Winterfest’s website and social channels on the day, and read Winterfest’s ticket policy before you buy.
Watching on TV or Online
Winterfest says the parade will stream live on YouTube and Facebook on December 12. WSVN 7 will broadcast it on Friday, December 18, from 7 to 8 p.m., with repeats on December 25 and January 1 on WSVN and ABC Miami 18 (air times subject to change).
Questions to Ask Before Parade Night
- Does my hotel room, table or event space actually look onto the New River or the Intracoastal section of the route?
- What time does the parade reach my spot? (It starts at 6 p.m. downtown and runs later to the north.)
- Which bridges will I need to cross, and when do they close?
- If I am on my own boat, where will I anchor or dock before the 2:30 p.m. or 4:50 p.m. closures, and have I checked the Coast Guard’s 2026 notice?
- If I am entering a boat, do I have Coast Guard certification, liability insurance and a dedicated VHF watch?
- What is the ticket refund policy if the parade is cancelled for weather?

The Bottom Line
For an easy, seated view with food and entertainment, buy tickets for the official viewing area at Las Olas and the Intracoastal and arrive when the gates open at 4 p.m. For a private evening, book a party or room on the New River section of the route, and confirm the view before you pay. If you are going by boat, treat Winterfest’s waterway closure times as hard deadlines (be anchored or docked before 2:30 p.m. on the New River or 4:50 p.m. on the Intracoastal), and check the Coast Guard’s 2026 notice. And keep an eye on the wind forecast, because the parade has been called off for weather before.
