Questions to Ask Before You Book or Buy
- Has the restaurant or hotel actually opened, and is it taking reservations for my dates?
- Is the venue open to the public, or to members and hotel guests only?
- For events, are VIP or hospitality packages sold by the organizer, and what exactly is included?
- For a new residence, what does the purchase contract say about the completion date, deposits and delays?
- Which unit counts, prices and amenities are confirmed in the developer’s documents, not just its marketing?
- For a resale condo, what do the milestone inspection and structural reserve study show, and are any assessments planned?
- How will insurance, association fees and property taxes change over the next few years?
- Is the week I’m visiting also Art Week, the boat show, Ultra or the Grand Prix, and how will that affect rates and traffic?

The Bottom Line
Book the big weeks early, especially Art Basel, the boat shows and the Grand Prix; check that a new restaurant has actually opened before you plan around it; and treat every tower completion date as the developer’s expectation, not a promise, until you have read the contract.
