Luxury Hotel Preferred-Partner Programs Explained: Virtuoso, Four Seasons, FHR and More (2026)
Luxury hotel preferred-partner programs give you free extras, usually daily breakfast for two, a hotel credit of around $100 and an upgrade when available, when you book through a travel advisor who belongs to the program, typically at the same price as booking the hotel’s flexible rate directly. American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts works the same way for Platinum and Centurion card members. This guide explains what each major program offers, the rules that catch people out and the questions to ask, as of October 2026.
Benefits differ by hotel and change often. Most programs do not publish their terms, so the details below come from the hotels where published and otherwise from travel publications that track them; confirm every benefit with your advisor before you book.
How These Programs Work
Hotel groups invite selected travel agencies into their programs. When an advisor at one of those agencies books your stay at a participating hotel, the hotel adds a package of extras. For most programs:
- The price usually matches the hotel’s flexible rate. One Mile at a Time reports that Virtuoso rates match the best flexible rate, and Prince of Travel reports that Four Seasons Preferred Partner prices are the same as booking with Four Seasons directly.
- You usually pay no extra fee. The hotel pays the advisor a commission, although One Mile at a Time notes that some advisors charge planning fees or set booking minimums.
- You often keep your hotel points. At Marriott, Hyatt and Hilton, these bookings still earn loyalty points, according to One Mile at a Time.
- Prepaid, promotional and award rates are often excluded, and you usually cannot combine two programs on one booking; ask your advisor.
- Upgrades and early or late check-out are usually “subject to availability.” A few programs confirm the upgrade when you book (see the table below).

Aman hotels can also be booked with partner benefits through some agencies, but Aman does not publish details of an advisor program, so ask your advisor what applies at the hotel you want.
Virtuoso: The Largest Network
Virtuoso is not a hotel brand but a network of travel agencies. It was co-founded in 1986 by Jesse Upchurch and his son Matthew Upchurch, who is chairman and CEO as of 2026. In March 2026 Virtuoso described itself as more than 1,200 agency locations with more than 20,000 advisors in 58 countries, with preferred relationships with 2,500 hotels and resorts. Membership is by invitation. Virtuoso says its hotel benefits “may vary and are subject to change,” so ask what applies to your dates.
American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts
Fine Hotels + Resorts is the one major program you book yourself rather than through an advisor. American Express says it is open to U.S. Platinum and Centurion card members, booked through American Express Travel and paid with an American Express card (Delta SkyMiles Platinum cards are excluded). The Platinum Card has an annual fee of $895 and includes a hotel credit of up to $600 a year (up to $300 twice a year) on prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection bookings. American Express says that from January 1, 2027, Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings will need a stay of at least two nights to qualify for that credit. The Fine Hotels + Resorts benefits are “not combinable with other offers unless indicated.”
Rules That Catch People Out
- Rate type: Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt and Dorchester Collection’s programs generally require the flexible or standard rate, not prepaid or promotional rates, according to One Mile at a Time and Prince of Travel. Four Seasons, Rosewood and The Peninsula’s programs can generally be combined with their promotions.
- No stacking: Prince of Travel reports that Dorchester’s Diamond Club cannot be combined with Virtuoso.
- Per stay, not per night: most credits are once per stay. Ask what they can be spent on.
- Existing bookings: moving a reservation you already made to an advisor may mean cancelling and rebooking, One Mile at a Time notes.
- Minimum stays: some Hyatt brands require two nights for Privé benefits.

Questions to Ask an Advisor
- Which programs does your agency belong to for this hotel, and which gives the better benefits here?
- Is your rate the same as the hotel’s own flexible rate? Can you show me both?
- Do you charge a booking or planning fee?
- Is the upgrade confirmed at booking, or only on arrival if available?
- Is the credit per stay or per night, and what can it be spent on?
- Can the benefits be combined with a current hotel promotion?
- Will I still earn my hotel points and elite credit?
- If I already have a reservation, can you take it over, and what are the cancellation terms?
The Bottom Line
If you stay at top hotels, book through an advisor in the right program, or through Fine Hotels + Resorts if you hold an eligible card, and you will usually get breakfast, a credit and a better chance of an upgrade for the same price. Check that the rate matches the hotel’s flexible rate, and confirm every benefit in writing before you travel.
